248 - Chevrolet Impala
The second generation casting of Corgiās ChevroletĀ Impala utilised an ingenious split body ā divided by aĀ chromed strip ā which allowed the two halves to beĀ painted in different colours. This allowed for liveriesĀ that would otherwise have proved too costly toĀ produce. Corgi 221 (the Chevrolet Impala Taxi),Ā Corgi 481 (the Chevrolet Police Patrol Car) and CorgiĀ 482 (the Chevrolet Fire Chief) are good examples.
There was, however, a fourth model using the sameĀ casting ā Corgi 248, in a much simpler livery. With aĀ cream roof and beige body, this āfamily saloonā versionĀ of the Impala was produced for just over a year,Ā after being introduced to the range in 1965. The boxĀ illustration is interesting in that the bottom half of theĀ car is depicted in pale blue ā perhaps Corgiās originallyĀ intended colour scheme? Around 162,000 wereĀ produced, most of these sold in the USA.
